Max Graef is a prime example of the new generation of young pure hearted producers emerging from Berlin at the moment. At age 19, his output is surprisingly mature and well rounded — juggling everything from house, hip-hop & garage to indefinable hybrids of in-between.
His own label ‘Box Aus Holz’ is fast becoming a hub for young producers focussing on the raw sample based house & disco sound. Besides releasing on his own imprint, Max has close ties to Andy Hart’s ‘Melbourne Deepcast’ with whom he has an ongoing collaboration. On his first release for Tartelet Max reveals his all-round talent and paves the way for his debut album due later this year.
A1. Am Fenster
On the opening track Max teams up with Muff Deep. The result is a warm and soulful tune with dusty vocal samples and raw rhythms.
B1. Pink Panther
What is this We are not sure but it sounds like a mix between house and 2step bumping 130 bpm, a true burner and not for the fainthearted.
B2. Wrakk On the final cut Max brings on his wingman and label partner Labuzinski for an adventures track build around a killer sample, pulsating synths and rolling 16 th note hi hats.
Full support from Axel Boman and Brandt Brauer Frick as they are loving the tracks
